Emerging artists light up laneway

The Post Office Box Laneway and Lightbox Gallery came alive on Friday 11 April as five talented young musicians took centre stage for the Regional Sounds Youth Music Showcase, a highlight of the Sweet Sounds Dessert Night and official launch of the Geraldton Do-Over weekend.

Presented by Euphorium with support from the City of Greater Geraldton, Town Team Movement, and RAC WA, the event attracted over 200 attendees who enjoyed vibrant, youth-led performances alongside a spread of late-night eats from OMG Donuts, Casa Dolce Cafe, and local favourites serving boba tea, kebabs and noodles.

Performers delivered solo sets ranging from 15 to 45 minutes, with a standout moment being the debut of an original song written and composed by Lucy Carter, a participant in the 2025 Perpetual Youth Art Challenge Songwriting Workshops. The emotionally resonant piece showcased the calibre of talent emerging from the Mid West region, nurtured through Regional Sounds’ mentorship programs. Read more on regionalsounds.com.au.

Artists were supported by a grant from the Mid West Development Commission, which covered performance fees and technical support. The Commission's partnership with Regional Sounds continues to expand access to high-quality music workshops and public performance opportunities for young artists across the region.

The Regional Sounds Youth Music Showcase not only spotlighted the next generation of musicians but also underscored the growing momentum behind community-driven arts initiatives in the Mid West.
